Energy

Industry Overview:

The economic development of countries is driven largely by the access to low-cost sources of energy.  However, this reliance on fossil fuel based energy has resulted in global warming and hence threatens the sustainability of our planet.  The generation, storage, and distribution of energy is a diverse and vital value chain that is global and multidisciplinary and will continue to be the center of attention of countries, economies and society for the foreseeable future.

Trends:

With an insatiable appetite for energy, the US continues to be the world's largest consumer on a per capita basis.  Such a consumption culture could arguably be held responsible for a massive military buildup or even the cause for multiple military conflicts world wide.  The challenge for the US is to reduce its energy consumption.  The recent trend towards EV's could be viewed as a giant step in the right direction of reducing pollution and combating global warming.  Transitioning the American vehicle fleet to Electric Drive vehicles could reduce America's dependence on foreign oil by more than 60% and greenhouse gases emissions by 40% while increasing the nation's economic security.
